Mothering Magazine Ceases Publication

After 35 years of publication, Mothering magazine is no more. It will continue to exist online as an information resource and discussion board, but regular issues are out.

I’ve mentioned Mothering before. They had a strong tendency to mix editorial and informational content. But if you knew that going in then there were some enjoyable articles. There was also a lot of woo in support of herbal and homeopathic remedies, and natural home birth as the only real way to labor, not to mention their support of the anti-vax camp long after autism/vaccine links had been dismissed and discredited. I can’t say I’m sad to see them go.

But, oh man, did they choose a classy way to go.

The editor of Mothering, Peggy O’Mara, and staff decided it was best to cancel their print edition … and not give their subscribers a heads up. E-editions were sent out for the most recent issue and then a week later the staff at Mothering decided to tell everyone. Whats more, Mothering was still taking subscriptions earlier this week and, at the time of this writing, still has an active subscription link. There are plenty of comments to the announcement from subscribers who started their subscription long after the decision to cancel Mothering was made.

Mothering magazine: Epic customer service FAIL.
