Barreleye Fish and Creationists

Creationists like to trot out a lot of weird looking creatures and claim they are proof of god's wisdom; I think they are just proof he has a sense of humor. Creation Moments did this recently with the barreleye fish:

Barreleyes' uniquely designed eyes are impossible to explain with gradual evolutionary modifications of regular fish eyes. Yet, they are well designed for barreleye's unusual way of making a living. As Scripture reminds us several times, nothing is too hard for God. As we read Scripture's record of what God has done in the past and what He has promised He still will do, especially for His people, this reminder is a comfort.

They really are interesting creatures. Just look at this MBARI video.



This particular transcript is illustrative of two things. First, the crew at Creation Moments correctly acknowledges that these are not well studied animals. But rather than saying our knowledge is incomplete, which is really just saying the same thing, and we don't know how these fish develop their ocular organs Ian Taylor and friends have their typical knee jerk goddidit reaction. Second, the link provided by Taylor and friends is to ScienceNews (and is behind a subscription wall). But it isn't from the news section. It is from the kids section. As I've said before, creationists like to reference simplified sources aimed at the grade school set to avoid discussing how complex some concepts are.
